Scriba aims to raise £8k to support literacy in young people

Yorkshire wordsmiths Scriba PR and not for profit Grimm & Co have joined forces to help young people bolster their literary skills around creativity and writing.

Having named Grimm & Co as its ‘charity of the year’, a jampacked calendar of fundraising events is well underway as Scriba’s 13-strong team aims to raise £8,000 in celebration of the agency’s 8th birthday earlier this year.

And the fundraising is well timed it seems, Grimm & Co’s base in the heart of Rotherham town centre — known as ‘the UK’s one and only magical apothecary visible to humans in Yorkshire’ — is set to undergo major renovations, which Scriba will now help fund. Donations will go towards the creation of a ‘reading room’ among other developments, earning the agency a spot in the charity’s sponsor wall of fame — playfully coined the ‘corridor of glory’.

Louise Treloar, communications coordinator at Grimm & Co commented: “Armed with a crew of staff, volunteers, and associate artists, we deliver workshops for children and young people, which empower them to use writing as a tool for self-expression. Our storytelling and writing sessions support those who need it most — unleashing imaginations and building confidence, self-respect, and communication skills. We then provide a publishing platform, so their voices and stories are heard.

“It’s so wonderful that Scriba PR is set to sponsor a workshop area at our new base — it will make a huge difference to the creative delivery here at Grimm & Co and we’re so grateful for the support.

“The whole team is clearly so passionate about communication and telling their clients’ stories, so this really feels like a true marriage of minds.”

Scriba PR’s managing director, Katie Mallinson, said: “When it came to selecting our charity for the year, the choice was easy. The work that Grimm & Co does for under-resourced children and young people is so inspiring.

“When we first met with Louise and the team, we were struck by their passion and drive — which became utterly infectious. We couldn’t wait to help them on their mission to ‘champion the writer in every child’.

“Engaging our marketing and publicity expertise, we aim to raise awareness of the organisation as well as generate money — to a target of £8,000 — with various events including a charity auction, social media campaign, and fun run dressed as famous literary characters, to name a few. Watch this space, especially if you fancy getting involved!”

Scriba PR, founded in 2013, has previously supported charities including Yorkshire Children’s Centre, Thrombosis UK, Conscious Youth, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and Cancer Support Bradford and Airedale with both monetary donations and pro bono PR services.
